IIM Calcutta Interview

The d day finally arrived. Our group started late as the previous group had overshot their time. Two very nice professors led us into the room d-1. As the group of nervous candidates took their seats, we were given the rules for our WAT and GD. The topic was 'the ladies in T.V. soaps and serials are stereotyped and traditional. Should this trend be changed? Your views.'

Wrote the essay for approx 3/5. Gd on the same topic. Gave 2-3 points. Well behaved. Everyone spoke for an equal amount of time. We were then asked to summarize in a random order. I was 9th to summarize.

Then the longest wait ever started. Each interview lasted for an average of approx twenty minutes. Was getting mixed reviews. Finally, i went into the room.

P1 and P2: old and soft spoken profs.
Al: around age 30 alum.

P1: What do you do?
Sir i work for sapient where i work as a quality assurance analyst.

P1: so what would be a mirror image. Shane warne?
Yes sir. Pause. Yes.

A: ok how many cricketers at a time can be onthe field (max)
Sir aftr the recent change in laws with no runners allowed, 13. When the ball is in play that is sir.

Ok, show geometrically (a-b)^2.
Drew!

Ok remainder theorem question 15 secs
Done.

So do you know limits, continuity and differentiable?

ONE PIECE OF WORK THAT I CONSIDER TO BE AMONGST MY FINEST... THE ONLY REGRET IS THAT I WROTE IT!!

Where do I start, where do I end,
As we sit down to spend
Some time to under-
Stand the eighth wonder.

The Craftsman surely took His time,
To weave her silken silhouette so sublime
Her walk so supple, flowing like a stream
Like an angel in your dream.

Those eyes make your head swirl
As stunning as a black pearl
The sparkle, the gleam and the vivacious spark
Lights up souls even darker than the dark.

If ice made up all the hearts,
A smile would wreck havoc in the parts
Of the world with the ice belt
As it will surely make them melt

Those black tresses make everything seem pale
Dancing around to welcome a gale
Infusing the spirits with her ambrosial charm
Her essence so benign spreads like a swarm

Radiance emanating to all and one
Aura so implicit, outshines the sun
Simplicity personified in truest sense
Honeyed tones accentuate her voice eloquence
Mountains are moved with her touch
Impetuous charm of hers is such

Human Tendencies

This is the first time i have sat down to write a blog without a rough draft. The first time its not going to be interesting for just some but hopefully everyone reading this at this very minute. I don't think it will be appealing to read, but truthful nonetheless, and the reason why am publishing something irrespective of the response is because I'm being taught not to care.
To those who are reading, if you have ever been asked to forget something, because it seems useless, or impossible, and if you thought there is still a glimmer of hope, and(jokingly though) if you think it may be worth reading, read. IF YES (to the first part of the above statement) and no otherwise, or no altogether, you may close the tab.
The subject am going to put forth is "Human tendencies." You must have wondered
  • What is it that makes the most important of thing in your life become the least important to others.
  • What is it that makes you move away from a close friend.
  • What is it that makes you emotionally weak and too dependent on a friend.
  • What is it that makes you start expecting things from someone that you shouldn't actually have done.
  • why are some people too adamant not to think about a point from your, or a normal, perspective.
  • Something or an answer fron someone you would have expected that you never got.
These questions are vague but your answers are welcome. A blog related to this will be posted soon enough, depending on your answers, but if you think these questions have aroused in your mind, i shall request you to post the answer (with some details) as a comment, even as an anonymous reader.
signing off,
the writer of this not so well written but directly-from-the-heart article.

Cheers.

is she that 'into you'????

Something dedicated to my PAI (AC)...

She's Just not that into You... I mean Me
The excuses… I’ve heard them all. Every time a friend says, “She
didn’t call”, “She’s too busy”, “She’s not ready for a relationship”
or “It’s bad timing”, I tell him one thing and one thing only… “She’s
just not that into you”.
Why is it then, that when I hear the same excuses I can’t convince
myself that she’s not that into me? I know if I were giving advice to
me, I would say… “Dude, she’s just not that into you” Seriously, if a
girl really likes you, she will make it happen, good or bad timing,
ready or not. If you have the girl who isn’t ready date … not that it
will end in a disaster, but the point is, she isn’t ready, it is bad
timing, yet she'll still make it happen, because she wants it to. So
these girls who are using this as an excuse are getting away with only
one thing… our feelings. Giving us false hope is not cool. In fact it
is the exact opposite of cool… it’s out right shitty. Do they realize
they are doing this to us? Do they think they are being kind by giving
us a glimpse of hope that we want to turn into a, dare I call it, a
relationship. We will sit and discuss these ladies, try to figure out
these ladies, and worst of all WAIT for these ladies. As if time is
really the issue. I have fallen for it once, maybe even twice…and I
will fall for it again, the only thing I can say to my friends, is
please slap some sense into me when you see me fall for “bad timing
girl”. “I like you but I’m not ready” can mean one thing. She just
likes the attention, it might be true, she might not be ready to date,
but tells you she likes you too keep you interested and her feeling
good about herself. You think; well she isn’t going around with
someone else, so it better be me. Well, it’s time to take charge.
Let’s have them wonder… “Is he, just not that into me?

dont worry bout your chair mate!!!

This is an attempt to write a short story.. do let me know about your views on this!!

Mr. Jason White, just a few moments ago, wanted to get to the chair he thought he truly deserved.

Oh am sorry. Mr. Jason White is a hardworking engineer who has been working with Power Solutions for more than eight years now. He has never missed a day of work, and never has he been late for it. His wife and two kids sometimes yearn for his time, only if he could find some. Finally, he has taken them out for a vacation. It’s a packaged trip through a tour operator though, as he didn’t have time to plan it, but hey, the family is not complaining. The only thing that’s on their minds is to have fun.

Jason had only a week off. Five days had been over. He was thinking about the latest project that he had completed in such a short span of time that it was a record of sorts for the company. He was expecting a promotion, but feared that Mr. Sibil Jones might get it, by the virtue of being his partner in the project and more vociferous about his achievement.

Jason was thinking about all the wonderful things he can do with a promotion, ensuring the best of education for his two children, and a healthy lifestyle for his wife, who never complained, but always wished that her husband made a little more money than he did now. He thanked god for making him get his family on a trip, and for choosing such a wonderful package, with all families out together.

He was lost in thought when Jonathan, his 4 year old son shouted,’ C’mon dad, you gotta move!’ He gave a look around and then started walking again. All the eyes were suddenly focused on him as the time started to move too slowly. The beats took a fraction longer than usual. Jonathan was trying to go past him. They were the only two left. And then it stopped. The music stopped playing. Jason was in front of the empty chair when Jonathan reached him. With one glance at the son, the other at the chair, he moved aside and let Jonathan sit. He was happy to see his child declared as the winner.

Oh am sorry again but did I forget to mention that the tour operator had arranged a game of MUSICAL CHAIRS!

Disappointment...

As an ardent movie buff,  December is one time I look forward to apart from the usual hungama around the diwali time! Most filmmakers try to release the biggest films in their production houses at around this time owing to the large amount of holidays people have at their disposal, and to try and to try and convert the festive mood to spending mood, and when you have Aamir and SRK fighting it out to claim the 'December Honours', you could just wait and watch in gasped breath.

Come circa January '09 and Akki completes the newly established trio of power in bollywood stamping their authority. The two Khans have had their go, the Khiladi Kumar is raring for another shot at supremacy. He is beyond doubt an awesome entertainer, comedian and action hero, but for long now, the one thing that has eluded Akshay Kumar is recognition as an actor. He will certainly try to label himself as one of that in the coming weeks.

With the exactas on SRK and Aamir,Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi released with excitement and expectations for an expert performance by the King.It was an exclamatory and exactly script-oriented excruciating execution as surinder sahni by SRK, but exaggerated exaltedness in the Aditya Chopra camp can be excluded as of now. The movie missed the flow and flair from the maker of DDLJ, but then we are expecting too much from him. SRK held his own in the movie, and the second half as raj was fun enough, and Anushka Sharma impresses as a newcomer, but then you had Adi himself moulding these actors into characters. Personally, what i feel let the movie down are its dialogues. DDLJ had powerful dialogues which still tinkle in your brain here and there, if you could just try to remember it. The songs are hummable and have a good rendition to each one of them. Tujh Mein... stands out for its pure melody. The movie doesn't impress you outrightly, but slowly and surely it leaves an indelible mark on you. Sweet little scenes such as the rose one, and the way Raj professes his love to Taani are sure to make your heart melt. If Adi cud just make it last the length of the movie. All in all i would give t a 3.5/5.

Moving on from Emperor Khan to Endearing Khan, Ghajini was a pale shade of what an 'Aamir Khan movie' has been in the past. With AK riding on the credence built around his past performances, Ghajini was sure to draw in large amount of crowds. And so it did, with AK using the additional holiday due to christmas. It might not be merry after all, as audience left the seats feeling cheated by Aamir. AK puts in his best, and if you have to watch it, watch it for fab-ab AK. His naughty smile in the romantic past, determined look in the presnt day avataar, and his tears in the climax are just too awesome to miss out on. the best scene in the movie personally was in the climax when AK after beating around a dozen goons, gazes at them wondering why he did so. But Ghajini is a movie that Aamir carries solely on his well-built shoulders, pun intended. The director is yet to get out of his south indian super-action sequence modes. Asin impresses, but others just fill in the screen time. The villain fails to instill fear inthe audience, and if it was not for AK, it wound have bombed. AK is the saving grace and as for my rating it deserves nothing more than a 2/5.

Chandni Chowk To China promises a lot, with Walt Disney behind it and Ramesh 'Sholay' Sippy at the helm, Akshay Kumar has a solid footing to outdo the Khans. With Martial Arts as the backdrop, Akshay might be feeling at home to achieve his target. CC2C promises to be a wholesome entertainer, but now, it all boils down to the 16th of January, and till then, KEEP WAITING!

cheers
